Gloria Cunningham Gloria Cunningham grew up in Naknek, Alaska where she learned skin sewing and beadwork from her mother. She creates stunning fur apparel, beadwork,and hand crafted dolls and bears. Her work is well-known by artisans and collectors throughout the state of Alaska. Gloria shares her expertise in Ilanka craft workshops, where she teaches a variety of skin sewing classes. February 2008 Jewelry class - Guest instructor Bob Shaw teaches a fossilized ivory carving and silver smithing class. Participants will learn techniques to create lovely pendants. College credit available. February 21, 22, 23. March 2008 Headdress class - Mary Babic, Director of the Ilanka Native Artists Consortium, instructs this class in traditional Alutiiq headdresses. Pieces will be constructed of leather and beads. Participants should supply their own beads; other supplies available. April 2008 Design Class - Ilanka Native Artist Consortium member Mike Webber teaches Coastal Alaska Native design. Learn how to create and draw traditional coastal Alaskan art. Photography Class - Bill Webb from the Made in Alaksa program demonstrates techniques for photographing products for web store fronts. This class is free to the public, but please sign up in advance to ensure space availability. May 2008 Spruce Root Weaving - Join guest instructor Terry Rofkar. Gather, split, and weave spruce roots to make traditional baskets and other pieces. May 1 - 5. Sign up in advance; space is limited.
